gideon nav who has been abused all her life for simply existing. gideon nav who was so lonely and ignored that harrowhark hating her meant more than anything. gideon nav who thinks that harrowhark doesn't love her. and that's okay, she still wants to be her cavalier, still wants to give her everything to the reverend daughter, it's okay if she doesn't love gideon. gideon loves her regardless. gideon nav who gives harrowhark everything without expecting anything in return because serving harrow is the reward she needs. gideon nav who wants to be torn apart and used and consumed by her beloved. gideon nav who has golden eyes. gideon nav thinking that harrow's desperate attempt to save her was a rejection. gideon nav who thinks that harrowhark wasted her when harrowhark wanted to preserve her. gideon nav who was brought back by god, made invincible by god, renamed by god, claimed by god. gideon nav who doesn't quite remember that when people say kiriona they're referring to her. gidon nav—prince kiriona gaia, who realized her dream of being in the cohort, and yet she is sad, so sad, the saddest girl in the whole universe. gideon nav who simply looks like she wants to be kissed. gideon–kiriona who lives in her corpse that doesn't bruise, doesn't bleed, doesn't feel like a body anymore. gideon nav

Friendly reminder that in the lightning thief musical the first song(the day I got expelled) doesn’t even start with Percy.
It starts with Luke.
Because in all actuality the story started with Luke.

Would it be wrong of me to say that Jimmy was always capable of good, being a better person and improving himself? And that that he intentionally and purposefully chooses not to shows his character far more than what he actually did?
Just like Anya says, that our worst moments don't make us monsters. It's one thing to fuck up, and immediately suffer the consequences and acknowledge your mistakes— But it's another thing entirely to purposefully make it so you never have to deal with the repercussions and then make yourself out to be the victim. Jimmy takes every opportunity to blame everyone around him. All the time.
I do think, like most people are capable of being better, improving and taking the consequences as they come with a responsibility. And Anya believes this so wholeheartedly because thays who she is. Jimmy doesn't even think there is consequence for him, in such denial about it all that he outright refuses to acknowledge it even subconsciously.
Curly genuinely saw the good in Jimmy, in the same way Anya sees the good in others. They both believe that our worst moments don't define us, and Curly had his own interpretation to it all of how we're defined by our past, but not slaves to it. Curly was probably the only and the last person to ever believe that there was good in Jimmy, to look past that dead pixel, his own equivalent of what that means to Curly, and see the bigger picture. Not because he refuses to accept that Jimmy is capable of bad things, but refusing to admit that he is incapable of change.
Thats why he pushes so hard, pushes to constantly remind Jimmy that despite everything, Curly will always have his back. Partly because he genuinely wants to see his best friend thrive and finally get a real chance at life, but also partly because he's absolutely terrified of what Jimmy might or will do if he slips even slightly. Its why he fawns so hard, appeals and pleases.
Curly has always seen the good in Jimmy, always seen the stars, the moon, the sun and the sky in him, even if he knows it's just an illusion. Even if he knows its fake, he has to try. And Jimmy choosing to not be better despite all of this, shows his character as someone who will always be a monster. Always be a slave to his own past, always tied to his own anger and grief because thats also all he's ever known, but because he genuinely doesn't even want to entertain the idea of being better.
To be a better man, you must face the man you once were, and he never ever wants to do that, because it would mean having to face himself for exactly what he is, something he's been avoiding for years.

Honestly honestly the most romantic moment of the entire series is when Neil talks about how he'd never gotten to travel for fun before and the Foxes are planning to take him to the mountains, and Kevin starts to protest that they can't go on vacation but stops because Andrew is holding a knife on him 😭🥺😩 like I don't know that's just just a sweet little moment to me, Andrew threatening Kevin if he takes this little chance for happiness from Neil
Uhhhh literally Andrew “I-don’t-care” Minyard is the most romantic of ALL the foxes. My line of work revolves around intimacy and from all my training and studying let me tell you that man is a master at his craft.
Andrew’s touch is beautiful and sacred; this thing he does not take easily, or give out kindly whatsoever. Yet with Neil it’s as if he can’t stop himself. We see it in how gently he tapes the garbage bags around Neil’s injuries, wordlessly, without being asked. THAT’S intimacy. How he holds his neck to inspect his eyes when he removes his contacts, how he hands Neil cigarettes without a request, how he doesn’t say a word while touching Kevin with the point of a blade because Neil deserves a fucking break. Sure, by technicalities, the shower scene from TKM is intimate by definition, but really it’s in the kiss he ghosts across Neil’s hip, in how he pats dry his broken skin afterwards. How can you look at him wordlessly dropping keys into Neil’s palms, and think, yeah there’s no way Andrew could be romantic. Is he soft, is he gentle, as a person? No. But his minuscule actions are, his unmentioned gestures are. You just have to look and find them.
TKM just has some of the most subtly beautiful examples of a different flavour of love and intimacy that is so unusual and heartwarming it’s insane. That shower scene drives me crazy when I think about how caring Andrew is in it. He came in with the tape and bags on his own volition, knowing Neil needed a shower and couldn’t do it unattended. How he didn’t take away Neil’s autonomy by assuming he couldn’t undress himself, instead waiting until he paused and couldn’t go any further before he started to help. How he drapes the blanket over Neil’s shoulders, again giving Neil a chance to struggle before wrapping it around him. They practically don’t speak to each other really in that chapter at all apart from a bit of flirting in the shower. Because they don’t need to, because Andrew knows how to love, how to be caring, how to wrap up the boy he almost lost in bubble wrap because if he loses him again, it won’t be pretty. He washes Neil’s hair! He covers his wounds! He treats him gently when that is possibly the last word that could ever be used to describe Andrew. I feel like that scene was in part of course him just looking after Neil who can use approximately two square inches of his entire body, but in another part proving how serious he is about Neil. Everything changes between the two of them then, suddenly their actions more relaxed than hungry, not yet a given but instead now just a want.
I don’t know. I can’t help but see so much intimacy and romance in subtleties and things you’d barely even notice, regardless of the people/the characters and their circumstances. I wouldn’t use the word sweet to describe Andrew at all, but the things he does for Neil? The way that he loves Neil? The absolutely fucking sweetest.

“Blind Al lets Logan move in until Wade and him move across the hall a few months later-“
AND LAURA!!
LOGAN AND LAURA MAKE A WEIRD DAUGHTER/FATHER R/S WITH WADE AS THE DAD WHO STEPPED UP
LAURA LIVES WITH THEM FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS IN THE ‘GUEST’ (her) ROOM
Laura makes some friends from the local college who become roommates down the street from Logan and Wade (never too far) and help her enroll to the same and other locals [colleges] a bit later
Logan and Wade help her forge all of her ‘past schoolings’ and stuff so she looks like she’s definitely had a normal life. Yep. Nothing to see here. Just a normal 22 yo getting her life together
(Not that you NEED college to have your life together - it’s just how Laura’s life went)
Laura walks across the stage about three years later - having took a four year major but did it in three - and looks out in the crowd to see her weird ass family she made along the way
Her roommates turned life long friends, Blind Al whose turned into a weird grandma figure, Peter whose kinda like an uncle, Venessa whose label isn’t solid; balancing between mother, aunt, friend, Wade’s friends/family becoming her own friends/family
And most importantly she saw Logan looking at her like she’s his everything. It’s not the same man, not at all, but he’s still her dad.
The years were strange to build their timid but solid relationship
They had to balance the fact Logan wasn’t her Logan, no matter how similar/not similar they were. They had to balance the fact that, yes, they still care for each other on a deep and intimate level. Logan, most of all, had to come to terms that, despite not being his, Laura was his.
And of course, Laura saw Wade, wearing a matching jogging suit with her face printed all over it with a foam-finger reading “number one Laura fan” as she walked across

Thinking about the ex bishops interacting with each other but mainly Narinder again since they have been around each other while he was locked away.
Thinking about them observing each other from afar. Heket watching as he is talking to someone, making jokes perhaps and feeling something Off only to realise days later that he doesn't gesture while talking anymore. He is somewhat animated with his expressions but he doesn't use his hands much and even then kinda keeps them somewhat close by. Heket choking on a laugh when she sees his ear twitch in annoyance right before making a swipe at the Lamb, something she very well recognises, only to feel cold and angry once she can breathe fine again.
Leshy hearing the same strain in his voice when he is hurt and trying to play it down but this time instead of reassurances that there is nothing to be worried about its snappy commands to not be touched and for people to leave him alone. Leshy talking with Heket about stuff and eventually learning that Naridner looks more mad and annoyer all the time, when Leshy can hear how dull his voice is when they talk, like he is a little sad or just generally not as present as he used to be. I'd imagine he is a lot better at picking up tones with his hearing, but also that he would struggle a lot with visualising things and people, Especially Narinder once they reuinite.
Thinking about Kallamar feeling creeped out because of Narinder's laugh. Because it is not malicious but it also doesn't sound like him. He doesn't laugh like he used to and it feels so Wrong to hear it. Kallamar noticing Narinder creeping around from afar, staring at them from the shadows. He worries what schemes he may be planning, how he may try and toy with them now that they are all vulerable but nothing comes. He just watches.
Thinking about Shamura getting emotional when he does something vaugely familiar. Them finding him asleep in a sunny part of the cult, hidden from most people and quietly purring in content. Them squinting because they want to scratch his ear and pet him but a part of them Knowing that they can't, they just cannot remember Why.
Narinder could watch them through his vessels' journeys through the crown so the ways his siblings have changed over a thousand years is not that jarring to him I'd imagine. He watched them adapt and change while he was gone so now he has to grapple more with the guilt and grief more than anything. They didn't have that. The last they saw him was when they locked him away so their last memory of him is most likely very sour. They most definitely have some strong feelings against him but they are still siblings who grew up together. They know each other inisde out. As mad as they are at each other, it must be unexpected to see the differences (or the lack of ones) even if logically it makes sense there would be some.
Just thinking about all the ways Narinder is both probably a completely different person post being locked up and yet still feeling like he's a ghost that haunts his siblings with how much he is the same. I could go on for hours.

I just finished my Imperial Radch reread, and I was thinking about Breq arriving at Athoek Station immediately setting up in the Undergarden, when it hit me.
Aside from the political advantages of having good relationships with the Undergarden residents and Station, plus her genuine desire to make life better for the people there, Breq did it because that's what Lieutenant Awn would have done.
Breq handled the situation on Athoek very much like Awn handled Ors, by "ignoring what anyone else would have seen as the natural local hierarchy" (Skaaiats words, bit still) and making alliances with the people who have the least amount of power, while maintaining a working but impersonal relationship with the others (think Breq with the likes of Hetnys or Lusulun, and Awn with Jen Shinnan).
I don't know, this may have been obvious to everyone else but it just hit me and I swear I almost started crying right then and there. She loved her so much it hurts

something i love about the grocery store fight is the way Eddie hits the "I'm angry because I miss you, you idiot" point and then immediately backtracks to hide behind Christopher. My sweet sweet damaged man, is okay for you to miss your best friend.

lestat modern day implications are just so fascinating. he’s sitting in front of his laptop writing out the most elaborate several-part AITA post known to subreddit history. he’s asking chatgpt to reassure him that his ex doesn’t hate him. he is stuck in a 1000+ queue on ticketmaster for tickets he absolutely cannot afford. oh the vision is so clear
